Carjacking Suspect Shot by Police in Stable Condition

A carjacking suspect is in stable condition after being shot by police in Nashville.

A carjacking suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jason P. Brown of Antioch, is currently in stable condition at Skyline Medical Center after being shot by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s (MNPD) Violent Crimes Unit. The incident occurred late Tuesday night at the Cumberland Crossing Apartments on Rio Vista Drive in Nashville.

Detective Brian Quigley, a veteran of nearly six years with MNPD, along with Officer Zachary Wright, who has served for 2 ½ years, were conducting surveillance when they identified a stolen green Mercury Marquis sedan parked at the apartment complex. This vehicle had been taken in an armed carjacking on Cheyenne Boulevard the previous Sunday night.

Brown exited the vehicle with a gun and began walking toward the apartment building. According to the officers, Brown aimed his pistol at them. Detective Quigley, wearing a marked police vest, shouted at Brown, who dropped his weapon just before the detective fired. Officer Wright also discharged his weapon. Both officers provided medical aid to Brown before he was transported to the hospital.

The Mercury Marquis’s owner reported being approached by two armed men who robbed him of his phone and car keys while visiting his mother on Cheyenne Boulevard. The car was found with its license plate removed and replaced with a temporary tag.

At the time of the incident, Brown was on supervised probation for a 2023 attempted auto theft conviction. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the police shooting, and Detective Quigley and Officer Wright have been placed on routine administrative duty during the investigation.
