Arrests Made in Nashville Gunfire Incident

Three men arrested for gun violence in Nashville public housing area.

Detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division have arrested three individuals, including two brothers, in connection with a gun violence incident that occurred last Saturday in Napier public housing and on Fain Street in Nashville. The incident began at approximately 8:35 a.m. when officers responded to a report of gunfire in the public housing community. Although no one was injured, a residence and vehicle sustained damage, and authorities recovered 15 bullet casings and one live round from the scene.

Later that day, at 11:50 a.m., Derrick Booker, aged 43, arrived at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left thigh, which resulted in a bone fracture. Booker was driving a 2024 Hyundai Palisade and was found in possession of a large plastic bag containing cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana. A pistol was also recovered from his vehicle.

The investigation revealed that Booker, a convicted felon, was involved in a suspected drug-related shootout with Maurice Maupin, 42, also a convicted felon, during the 8:35 a.m. incident. Booker was armed with a pistol, while Maupin had a rifle. Following the shootout, Maupin reportedly exchanged rifles with his brother, William Maupin, 45, at an apartment on Cannon Street. Later that day, Maurice Maupin allegedly shot into Booker’s Hyundai Palisade as Booker was driving on Fain Street, injuring him in the leg.

Maurice Maupin surrendered at the Downtown Detention Center with an attorney and was charged with felony aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, and two counts of unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. His bond was set at $55,000, and he has been released on bond. Maurice Maupin has a prior conviction for selling cocaine from a 2009 arrest, for which he received a 12-year probated sentence.

William Maupin was arrested at the Cannon Street apartment and faces charges of evidence tampering, being an accessory after the fact in the gunfire incident, and felony reckless endangerment. His bond was set at $35,000, and he has also been released on bond.

Derrick Booker was arrested upon his release from the hospital and charged with multiple counts of drug possession, felony reckless endangerment for his role in the gunfire, unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon, and probation violation. He is currently being held without bond. Booker’s criminal history includes convictions for domestic-related aggravated assault and aggravated robbery.
