Altamont Resident Sentenced for TennCare Fraud

Crystal Myers convicted for TennCare fraud in Warren County, Tennessee.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) has announced the conviction of Crystal Myers, a 38-year-old resident of Altamont, Tennessee, for TennCare fraud. Myers was found guilty of one count of TennCare fraud and one count of Theft of Services due to her misrepresentation of having custody of her two children, allowing her to unlawfully receive TennCare benefits.

Had Myers accurately reported her lack of custody, she would have been ineligible for these benefits. As a result of her conviction, she has been sentenced to four years of supervised probation and ordered to pay restitution amounting to $12,339.06. This sum includes a $50 fraud fine and a $75 contribution to the “Economic Crime Fund.”

The case was prosecuted by Warren County District Attorney General Chris Stanford, with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Felicia B. Walkup. Inspector General Chad D. Holman emphasized the importance of providing accurate information during TennCare applications, stating that the OIG is committed to investigating similar cases to protect the TennCare program.

Tennesseans are encouraged to report suspected TennCare fraud. The OIG offers cash rewards through their Cash for Tips Program for information leading to convictions. Reports can be made by calling 1-800-433-3982, emailing Tenncare.Fraud@tn.gov, or visiting the OIG’s website.
