A serious accident occurred in the parking lot of Longhorn Steak House at The Avenue Mall, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, resulting in critical injuries to a woman. The incident, which is under investigation by the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT), took place on December 23, 2024, at approximately 2:58 p.m.
The accident involved a modified Honda CRV, equipped with an accelerator and brake pedal on the passenger side for mail carrier use. Preliminary investigations indicate the driver, a woman, had reversed out of a parking spot to allow a man in a wheelchair to enter the vehicle. The man, who had recently suffered a stroke and lacked feeling on his left side, was assisted into the SUV by another woman.
During this process, the man’s foot accidentally pressed the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to reverse erratically. The SUV struck a parked vehicle, pinning the woman standing outside between the two vehicles. The SUV continued to reverse, colliding with two more parked vehicles before finally halting.
Emergency responders from the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services provided immediate medical assistance. The injured woman was initially transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital and was later transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition. Fortunately, both the assisting woman and the man in the wheelchair were unharmed. The investigation into the accident continues.
