The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is actively seeking witnesses to provide information on a fatal three-car collision that occurred on Wednesday, December 4, shortly before 1 p.m. The incident took place on outbound NW Broad Street near Interstate 840 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the female driver of a 2020 Kia Rio may have improperly changed lanes, resulting in a collision with a 2015 Kia Optima. Both vehicles were reportedly traveling south on NW Broad Street when the impact occurred. This collision caused the Kia Rio to enter the northbound lanes, where it was subsequently struck by a 2013 Volkswagen Beetle. Additionally, debris from the crash impacted a Chrysler minivan traveling northbound.
The female driver, aged 24, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity will be disclosed once her family has been notified. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported from the accident.
FACT investigators are examining whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. They discovered possible drugs and an open bottle of alcohol in one of the vehicles involved.
At the scene, the driver of the Kia Optima, 19-year-old Brandon Alexander, was arrested on two unrelated outstanding warrants, including theft and criminal simulation. Alexander was also found with a loaded AR-15 in his possession.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Fatal Accident Crash Team. Individuals who may have witnessed the accident are encouraged to contact FACT investigator Officer Derrick Bush via email at dbush@murfreesborotn.gov.
