Two Arrested in Nashville with Firearms and Drugs Seized

Nashville police arrested two individuals, recovering guns and drugs during the operation.

On a recent evening, detectives from the Vehicle Crimes division in Nashville observed a Nissan Altima near Jackson Street and 16th Avenue North. This vehicle had previously evaded police on multiple occasions over the past two weeks. Surveillance was maintained until a police helicopter arrived to assist.

The driver, identified as Zahnaee Chaney, 27, attempted to flee when officers initiated a vehicle stop. Chaney eventually stopped in an alley behind a residence on 12th Avenue North but drove off again, striking a light pole. Both Chaney and her passenger, Calvert Johnson, 41, were apprehended. Johnson had outstanding warrants for vandalism and aggravated trespassing, and the Altima was registered in Chaney’s name.

Upon searching, officers found a handgun on Johnson and another pistol inside the vehicle. Both Chaney and Johnson are convicted felons with past convictions for aggravated robbery. At the time of arrest, Chaney was out on bond for two counts of theft of property.

Additionally, officers recovered a stolen license plate, a stolen license plate decal, 3.6 grams of cocaine, and a THC vape from the vehicle. Both individuals now face charges for felon in possession of a handgun and drug possession. Chaney is further charged with theft of property, vandalism of government property, evading arrest, and reckless driving. She remains in custody on a $30,000 bond, while Johnson is held on a $24,000 bond.
