The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has arrested 17-year-old Emilio Leyva-Hernandez, who, along with his twin brother Marcos, is accused of the murder of Hwarang Joo, a Nashville restaurant owner. The incident occurred on November 24 in the parking lot of a shopping complex located in the 1300 block of Bell Road.
Emilio Leyva-Hernandez was apprehended by detectives on Hamilton Church Road while he was a passenger in a vehicle. His arrest follows that of his twin brother Marcos, who was taken into custody on Thanksgiving night. Both brothers are currently being held in juvenile detention.
The investigation indicates that Joo, owner of Hot Stuff Chicken, was leaving his business and driving away in his Volkswagen SUV when gunfire broke out in the parking lot. Joo was struck by a bullet and his vehicle subsequently crashed into a dental office at 1315 Bell Road. The Leyva-Hernandez brothers are alleged to have used an AR-style rifle to target the occupants of a Dodge Charger involved in a separate altercation, during which Joo was unintentionally shot in the head.
