The Tennessee Department of Correction is organizing a rapid hiring event for individuals interested in pursuing careers as correctional officers or correctional counselors. This event is scheduled to take place at the Knoxville Day Reporting Center on December 6 and 7. The positions being offered are at the Morgan County Correctional Complex.
Qualified candidates attending the event will have the opportunity to complete interviews and fulfill pre-employment requirements. Successful applicants may receive a conditional job offer on the same day. The starting salary for correctional officers is $44,520, which increases to $46,752 after one year of service. Correctional counselors will begin with a salary of $43,140. Additionally, newly hired correctional officers are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
New employees will also benefit from comprehensive health, life, vision, and dental insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and assistance with college tuition. Furthermore, new correctional officers will undergo six weeks of paid training through the Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) program at the Tennessee Correction Academy. This training involves both practical and classroom settings to ensure that new officers are well-prepared for their roles.
Those interested in attending the hiring event can pre-register online at the State of Tennessee – Department of Correction Hiring Event website. However, pre-registration is not mandatory, and walk-ins are welcome. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and present a state-issued photo ID at the event.
