Michael D. Williams, 54, has been charged with vehicular assault by recklessness, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, and driving on a revoked license following a hit and run incident that critically injured a pedestrian. The event occurred on Monday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m. at 1505 Porter Road.
According to the preliminary investigation, Williams was driving a Nissan Armada when he attempted a left turn onto Porter Road from Berkshire Place Apartments. During the turn, he lost control of the vehicle, which rotated 180 degrees and mounted the sidewalk, striking a 54-year-old pedestrian and throwing him into the roadway. The pedestrian was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries.
Surveillance footage from a nearby residence captured Williams accelerating excessively before losing control. At the time of the crash, the road was wet. After the incident, Williams fled the scene heading north on Porter Road. A witness followed him to a residence on Riverside Drive, where authorities subsequently took him into custody. Williams is being held on a $35,000 bond.
