Nashville Initiative to Reduce Vehicle Crime Marks 1000th Arrest

Nashville's vehicle theft initiative achieves 1000 arrests since its start in February.

The Nashville Police Department’s special initiative aimed at combating vehicle theft and related crimes reached a significant milestone with the 1,000th arrest made recently. This initiative, which began on February 1, has been actively pursued by detectives and has shown notable progress in tackling vehicle-related offenses.

The 1,000th arrest involved Corey Harding Jr., 28, who was apprehended after being identified as the driver of a stolen Dodge Ram 1500 TRX pickup truck. The truck was located near Trinity Lane and Whites Creek Pike, an area where it had previously evaded officers. Detectives conducted surveillance and confirmed Harding as the driver. A police helicopter was used to track Harding as he attempted to evade ground units, reaching speeds of around 120 miles per hour. In the pursuit, Harding discarded a gun from the vehicle near Old Hickory Boulevard and Sulpher Creek Road, which police later recovered.

The chase concluded when Harding abandoned the vehicle in a parking garage on Harding Pike and fled on foot. He was eventually detained at a nearby women’s boutique where he had been pretending to shop. Harding now faces multiple charges including vehicle theft, being a felon in possession of a gun, two counts of evading arrest, reckless driving, and two counts of altering title, registration, plate, or permit. He remains in custody with a bond set at $93,000.

In addition to Harding’s arrest, the initiative has successfully recovered 532 stolen vehicles and seized 223 firearms. This ongoing effort by the Nashville Police Department highlights its commitment to reducing vehicle theft and enhancing public safety in the community.
