Nashville Felon Arrested for Threatening Judge

A felon was arrested for sending death threats to a retired Nashville judge.

A convicted felon has been taken into custody following his involvement in sending death threats to retired Davidson County Judge Stanley Kweller. Michael Wortham, aged 31, was apprehended by detectives from the TITANS Unit while he was asleep in his car in the Old Hickory area. The arrest took place early in the morning.

The investigation into the threatening messages began in May, following the belief that these threats were linked to a January 2024 custody decision where Wortham lost his parental rights. Judge Kweller retired shortly after the case was concluded.

Detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division confirmed that the threatening messages were sent from a Facebook account linked to Wortham’s phone number. Wortham, who was thought to be residing out of state, was entered into a national database after two felony warrants were issued against him. Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) detectives sought information from license plate readers to determine if Wortham was traveling towards Nashville. His vehicle was flagged by an Arkansas license plate reader on Saturday.

Wortham was eventually located inside his vehicle near his last known address in Davidson County. He was subsequently booked on outstanding warrants for aggravated stalking and retaliation for past actions.
