Moore County Receives Funding for Brownfield Redevelopment

Moore County receives a $20,000 grant for brownfield redevelopment initiatives.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has awarded Moore County a $20,000 grant as part of the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants (BRAG) program. The funds will be utilized by Moore County to identify and prioritize sites for redevelopment. This grant is one of 36 brownfield redevelopment grants distributed throughout the state, as announced in July.

The BRAG program is funded by the Rural Brownfield Redevelopment Investment Act, which aims to protect the environment and foster economic growth, particularly in rural areas. The act provides local governments and development boards with the necessary resources to investigate, clean up, and redevelop properties that have become blighted.

Brownfields are properties that remain vacant or underutilized due to potential contamination. Redevelopment efforts on these sites help minimize risks to public health and the environment while encouraging economic investment in the community.
