Mayor Freddie O’Connell has announced the appointment of five individuals to the East Bank Development Authority, an organization tasked with advancing economic development along the East Bank of the Cumberland River in Nashville. The newly appointed members are Emily Lamb, who will serve as board chair until June 2029; Brian Reames, with a term ending June 2025; Kaitlin Dastugue, whose term concludes in June 2026; Mona Hodge, serving until June 2027; and Hal Cato, with a term ending in 2028.
Mayor O’Connell expressed his gratitude towards the appointees, stating that their involvement is crucial for the continuity of work and progress along the East Bank. He emphasized the Authority’s role in delivering neighborhoods that align with the community’s vision, as established during the Imagine East Bank public engagement period. These developments aim to include significant commitments to affordable housing, childcare, and safe, transit-accessible streets.
The mayor has informed the Metro Council of these appointments, which do not require the Council’s approval. The Metro Council had previously voted in favor of establishing an authority to oversee East Bank developments, following legislative approval from the state in April. In the same month, the Metro Council passed a development agreement with The Fallon Company to begin development on the first 30 acres of Metro-owned land.
Mayor O’Connell’s primary focus is to create an equitable and affordable East Bank neighborhood. The Fallon Company has committed to constructing over 1,500 housing units, with nearly half of them being allocated at affordable rates, including some deeply affordable options. The agreement mandates that these affordability measures remain in effect for the entire 99-year duration of the ground leases, ensuring lasting, affordable housing close to jobs and transit for Nashville residents.
