The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Legislative Council convened in Mt. Juliet on Thursday, December 12, to consider several proposed amendments to the TSSAA Bylaws.
Among the proposals was a submission from Christ Presbyterian Academy regarding the classification process. This proposal, which aimed to ensure that the rules for classification apply equally across all divisions and sports, was tabled until the April meeting. This delay will allow the academy to refine the wording of their proposal.
Another proposal from St. Andrews-Sewanee sought to allow students transferring for academic reasons to maintain their varsity eligibility. This would be contingent on confirmation from the previous school’s administration that the transfer was for educational purposes and not related to athletics. However, this proposal was denied by the council.
Additionally, McCallie and Baylor each presented proposals to modify Article II (Eligibility) of the TSSAA Bylaws. These proposals were postponed to be discussed in a special meeting planned for February 4.
Trinity Christian Academy successfully submitted a proposal that was approved. This proposal allows district-level Athletic Directors from school systems that constitute no more than twenty-five percent of the total member high schools in their district to be eligible for the Board or Council.
For more detailed information, the full summary of the meeting is available in a document that can be accessed here.
