Giles County Awarded Grant for Brownfield Redevelopment

Giles County receives $20,000 for brownfield site redevelopment from TDEC's BRAG program.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has awarded Giles County a $20,000 grant as part of the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants (BRAG) program. This funding will be allocated to identify priority sites for redevelopment within the county. The grant is one of 36 awarded across Tennessee as announced in July.

BRAG grants are funded through the Rural Brownfield Redevelopment Investment Act, aiming to protect the environment while fostering economic growth, particularly in rural areas. This legislation provides local governments and development boards with the necessary resources for the investigation, cleanup, and redevelopment of properties classified as brownfields.

A brownfield is defined as a property that is either vacant or underutilized due to potential contamination concerns. The remediation of these sites is intended to reduce public health and environmental risks while promoting economic development.
