Franklin County Secures $20,000 for Brownfield Redevelopment

Franklin County receives a $20,000 grant for brownfield site redevelopment.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has awarded Franklin County a $20,000 grant for brownfield redevelopment. This funding is part of the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants (BRAG) program. The grant will enable Franklin County to identify priority sites for redevelopment, enhancing both environmental protection and economic opportunities within the area.

This grant is one of 36 allocated across the state, which were announced in July. The BRAG program is funded by the Rural Brownfield Redevelopment Investment Act. This legislation provides local governments and development boards with the necessary resources for the investigation, cleanup, and redevelopment of blighted properties.

Brownfields are properties that remain vacant or underutilized due to potential contamination concerns. By addressing these issues, the BRAG program aims to minimize public health and environmental risks, while also encouraging economic investment in these areas.
