After a comprehensive investigation lasting a year, former director of the Southminster Presbyterian Church’s Childcare Center, Stephany Peugeot, has been indicted on charges of felony theft. The investigation, conducted by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s Fraud Unit, found that Peugeot embezzled more than $200,000 during her tenure from June 2021 to November 2023. The discrepancies came to light in mid to late 2023 when employee paychecks began to bounce, prompting further scrutiny into the daycare’s financial management. Detective Ryan Burger led the investigation, which revealed that Peugeot had used the funds for various personal expenses. She was subsequently taken into custody but released on a $50,000 bond.
