Fatal Shooting on I-24 Sparks Homicide Investigation

A man was fatally shot on I-24; police are investigating.

A tragic shooting incident on Interstate 24 near the Sillman Evans Bridge in Nashville has resulted in the death of De’ Angelo Black, a 20-year-old local resident. The shooting occurred on a Sunday afternoon while Black was a passenger in a Saturn Ion sedan.

According to preliminary investigations, the occupants of the Saturn had an encounter with individuals in another car at a gas station in North Nashville. This confrontation led to the other car following them onto the interstate. As both vehicles entered I-24 west from I-40, shots were fired, striking Black, who was seated in the rear of the Saturn.

The driver of the Saturn quickly exited onto the Shelby Avenue ramp, where they sought assistance from a nearby officer on traffic duty. Black was then transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

During the night, authorities located the suspect vehicle unoccupied at an apartment complex in North Nashville. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively pursuing leads to resolve the case.
