Fatal Collision on I-40 West Involving Wrong-Way Driver

A wrong-way driver was killed in a collision on I-40 West in Nashville.

A tragic accident occurred early Saturday morning on I-40 West near Jefferson Street in Nashville, resulting in the death of a wrong-way driver. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Karla Castillo-Garcia of Nashville, was operating a 2014 Toyota Corolla in the wrong direction, traveling east in the westbound lanes. She collided head-on with a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, driven by a 24-year-old male. Castillo-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Ford was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Authorities have reported that there was no immediate evidence of drug or alcohol involvement at the crash site. However, toxicology tests are set to be conducted to determine if impairment played a role in the incident. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
