Decrease in Guns Stolen from Vehicles in Nashville

Nashville sees a decline in gun thefts from vehicles compared to last year.

The Nashville Police Department is advising residents to take precautions by locking their car doors, securing valuables, particularly firearms, and removing car keys to prevent theft. In Nashville this year, a total of 854 guns have been reported stolen from vehicles, with 21 incidents occurring just last week. This contributes to a total of 1,163 guns stolen in Davidson County in 2024, with 73% of these thefts occurring from automobiles. Compared to the same timeframe last year, there has been a 26% reduction in gun thefts from vehicles, as 1,137 guns had been stolen by this time in 2023.

In response to vehicle theft and associated crimes, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) initiated a special program on February 1, which has led to 983 arrests and the recovery of 524 stolen vehicles and 214 guns. Stolen vehicles and firearms are often linked to criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies, further emphasizing the importance of this initiative.
