Davidson County has been awarded a $20,000 check by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) as part of the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants (BRAG) program. The county plans to utilize these funds in collaboration with the Greater Nashville Regional Council to identify key sites for redevelopment. This grant is among 36 brownfield redevelopment grants announced across the state in July.
The BRAG grants stem from the Rural Brownfield Redevelopment Investment Act, which aims to protect the environment and foster economic growth, particularly in rural areas. This legislation provides local governments and development boards with essential resources for the investigation, cleanup, and redevelopment of deteriorated properties.
A brownfield is typically a site that remains vacant or underutilized due to potential contamination. By remediating these sites, threats to public health and the environment are minimized, while economic investment is encouraged.
The Greater Nashville Regional Council, established by the Tennessee General Assembly, serves as the regional planning and economic development organization for 13 counties in Middle Tennessee. For more information, visit the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation website.
