Annual Memorial Service for Homicide Victims at Centennial Park

Centennial Park hosts a memorial service for families of homicide victims this Thursday.

The 30th annual Season to Remember Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday evening, December 12, at 5:45 p.m. in Centennial Park. This event is dedicated to families who have lost loved ones to homicide and aims to ensure that these victims are remembered during the holiday season. The service is organized by the police department’s Family Intervention Program, along with the District Attorney’s Office, Tennessee Voices for Victims, and the United States Attorney’s Office.

Family members and friends of homicide victims will have the opportunity to place Christmas ornaments on a tree in the Children’s Garden as a tribute to their loved ones. Additionally, the service will feature the lighting of the Menorah to commemorate Hanukkah and the Kinara to commemorate Kwanzaa. Since its inception in 1995, this annual event has provided a space for families and friends to come together and honor their loved ones with Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa decorations on a special evergreen tree.

In preparation for the service, families are invited to create ornaments in memory of their loved ones. This gathering will take place tonight, December 10, at 5:45 p.m. in the Community Room of the Midtown Hills Precinct, located at 1441 12th Avenue South. Amy Griffith Taylor from the police department’s Family Intervention Program will coordinate the event and provide support to family members.

Media representatives are welcome to attend the ornament-making gathering.
