Volunteer Cleanup Scheduled at Darrell’s Dream Playground

Volunteers to clean Darrell's Dream Playground on November 9 at Warriors' Path State Park.

Darrell’s Dream Boundless Playground at Warriors’ Path State Park will be temporarily closed on Saturday, November 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a volunteer cleanup event. This service event is organized by the Friends of Warriors’ Path State Park in collaboration with Tennessee State Parks and several local community groups. While the park will remain accessible to visitors, the playground area will not be available during the cleanup.

In the event of rain or cold temperatures, the cleanup will commence at 10 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to check the Friends of Warriors’ Path State Park’s Facebook page for updates. Darrell’s Dream Boundless Playground has been a notable feature of the park for 17 years.

Park Manager Chris Cole emphasized the importance of such cleanups to maintain the playground as a significant attraction, appreciating the volunteers and community partners involved. The collaboration involves local businesses and community groups undertaking various maintenance tasks, such as replenishing rubber mulch, pressure washing equipment, weeding, and restocking the sand island.

Organizers have expressed their gratitude to sponsors such as Walmart, Chef’s Pizzeria, and MyCroft Signs, alongside other contributors like The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Celebration Church, Cherokee High School NJROTC, the City of Kingsport, Kingsport Kiwanis Club, Lions Club of Kingsport, Northeast Tennessee Master Gardeners, Dobyns-Bennett and West Ridge high school Key Clubs, Tennessee Promise and Tennessee Achieves students, ETSU Serves, and Knoxville TVA Credit Union.

The event welcomes neighbors, churches, and community groups to volunteer, aiming for a turnout of 75-100 participants. The organizers emphasize that more volunteers are always appreciated.

Tennessee’s Annual No Trash November Initiative

The Tennessee Department of Transportation’s “No Trash November” initiative calls on residents to participate in litter cleanup events throughout the state, with over 2,200 volunteers collecting 86,000 pounds of litter last year. The campaign collaborates with organizations like “Keep Tennessee Beautiful” and offers incentives through the Trash Masters Rewards program to promote community involvement in maintaining Tennessee’s natural beauty and safety. Participants can find events and resources on the Nobody Trashes Tennessee website and are encouraged to share their efforts on social media using specific hashtags.
