The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s Specialized Investigations Division has successfully apprehended the final two suspects involved in the October 12 shooting incident on Jefferson Street. The incident resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to nine others. Corey D. Johnson, 31, and Kiyahn Hayes-Woods, 23, were detained without incident in the 300 block of Berry Street. At the time of arrest, Hayes-Woods was in possession of a semi-automatic pistol.
Both individuals are accused of discharging firearms during the incident. Corey Johnson faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Kiyahn Hayes-Woods has been charged with felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. Johnson is currently held on an $80,000 bond, while Hayes-Woods is held on a $94,000 bond.
The investigation revealed that five individuals with local gang ties began shooting at each other around 5 p.m. at the intersection of 27th Avenue North and Jefferson Street. Among them, Vonquae Johnson, 24, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Corey Johnson and Hayes-Woods were found to be at the scene with Vonquae Johnson.
Two other suspects, Marquez Davis and DeAnthony Brown, both 24, were apprehended on October 14. They have been charged with criminal homicide in relation to Vonquae Johnson’s death. Additionally, Marquez Davis faces federal charges for gun possession as a convicted felon.
