NASHVILLE, TN – (Nov. 18, 2024) – The Parthenon in Nashville, in collaboration with the Centennial Park Conservancy, has announced the upcoming exhibition titled “The Muses” by renowned underwater photographer Christy Lee Rogers. The exhibition will be displayed in the East Gallery of the Parthenon from December 13, 2024, to June 1, 2025. A free opening reception is scheduled for December 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Christy Lee Rogers, known for her unique underwater photography, is based in the Nashville area. Her work is celebrated for its emotional resonance and ethereal beauty. This exhibition marks her first museum exhibit in the Southern United States. The Parthenon, originally a temple for the goddess Athena, aligns with the theme of the Muses that have historically inspired artistic endeavors.
Rogers’ photographs often echo the grandeur of Baroque art, invoking comparisons to artists like Caravaggio and Rubens. Her process involves submerging models, fabrics, and lights to create painterly effects in her photography. The exhibition will also include a piece from a recent commission for filmmaker James Cameron’s Avatar project.
Jennifer Richardson, curator of the Nashville Parthenon, expressed her enthusiasm for the exhibition, stating that Rogers’ work encourages creativity and artistic exploration among visitors. The exhibition will be complemented by workshops focusing on the nine Greek Muses, offering activities such as dance, comedy improv, and writing seminars in collaboration with local Nashville institutions.
The exhibition “The Muses” is presented by Loden Vision Centers and supported by the Centennial Park Conservancy along with partners such as Amazon, HCA Healthcare Foundation, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.
