The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s (TDCI) Division of Securities is set to honor the state’s veterans during Veteran Saves Week, taking place from November 12 to November 15, 2024. This initiative aims to encourage military members, their families, and caregivers to focus on saving money, reducing debt, and building wealth. The event is designed to honor the tradition of Military Saves Week, with a specific emphasis on the financial journey of transitioning service members and veterans.
Veteran Saves Week will focus on four key areas: Financial Stress, Housing, Employment, and Banking. The Securities Division will distribute messages each day to promote financial readiness, with daily themes including choosing the right financial institution, saving for competing priorities, understanding housing needs, and navigating the financial transition from military to civilian employment.
TDCI Commissioner Carter Lawrence emphasized the department’s dedication to providing resources for financial stability to service members and their families. He encouraged military families to use this week to develop or review their financial plans.
Elizabeth Bowling, TDCI Assistant Commissioner for Securities, noted that Tennessee’s military community faces unique challenges during the transition to civilian life. She highlighted that several team members within the Securities Division have military experience, which provides insight into the financial challenges faced by veterans and their families. Bowling invited Tennesseans with military service to reach out for assistance with financial investments.
