Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and First Lady Maria Lee have announced the state’s official Christmas celebrations, which include Christmas at the Capitol and the “Tender Tennessee Christmas” tours of the Tennessee Residence. The Governor expressed his enthusiasm for the holiday season, inviting Tennesseans to join in charitable activities as they celebrate.
The Christmas at the Capitol event is slated for Monday, December 2nd, at 5:30 p.m. CST. This public event will include a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, performances by the KIPP Choir and the 129th Army Band, and a visit from Santa Claus. The 30-foot Norway spruce that will be used for the Christmas tree has been generously donated by Paul and Connie Nichols of Ashland City, Tennessee.
The Governor and First Lady will be accompanied by guests from the Middle Tennessee nonprofit, Friend’s Life Community, which supports adults with developmental disabilities. In line with the First Lady’s Tennessee Serves initiative, attendees are encouraged to bring donations for those in need. Suggested contributions include toilet paper for the Morgan Scott Project and copy paper and First-Class Postage Stamps for Family Promise of Roane County.
Additionally, the Tennessee Residence will open its doors to the public for Christmas tours from December 6-8 and December 13-15. The tours, themed “Tender Tennessee Christmas,” will showcase the timeless traditions of Christmases in Tennessee. These self-guided tours are free, but reservations are required and can be made here.
Visitors are also encouraged to support five featured Tennessee nonprofits by donating requested items, with more information available here.
