The Tennessee Department of Education has released the school and district designations for the 2023-24 academic year. This announcement includes the identification of Reward Schools, Exemplary Districts, and districts needing improvement. These designations rely on various performance indicators, primarily focusing on student achievement and growth metrics.
A total of 377 schools across 97 districts in Tennessee received the Reward School designation. Additionally, 10 districts were recognized as Exemplary Districts, while another 10 districts were identified as In Need of Improvement. The full list of these designations can be accessed on the department’s accountability webpage.
Lizzette Reynolds, Commissioner of Education, expressed her enthusiasm for the 2023-24 Reward Schools and Exemplary Districts, commending their dedication to student learning and growth. She emphasized the critical role of teachers and district leaders in achieving student success.
Schools and districts are evaluated annually to determine their eligibility for these designations. The evaluations consider several performance indicators, such as student achievement, growth, attendance, graduation rates, and support for English learners. Schools are recognized as Reward Schools based on their high performance or improvement across these indicators. Exemplary Districts achieve a district performance score of 3.1 or higher on a 4.0-point scale.
The designated Exemplary Districts for this year include:
– Alcoa City Schools
– Arlington Community Schools
– Bells City Schools
– Clinton City Schools
– Collierville Schools
– Dayton City School
– Jackson County Schools
– Lebanon Special School District
– Milan Special School District
– Van Buren County Schools
These designations were presented and approved by the State Board of Education on November 22nd. For further details on the designations, visit the department’s accountability page. For media inquiries related to the Tennessee Department of Education, contact Edu.MediaInquiries@tn.gov.
