State Route 76 Opens Early in Tennessee

State Route 76 in Tennessee opens seven months ahead of schedule.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced the early opening of a new segment of State Route 76 (US 79) in Carroll County, Tennessee. Originally scheduled for completion in May 2025, the $29.4 million project will now officially open on November 11, 2024, providing significant improvements to the area’s transportation infrastructure. The project involved upgrading a nearly 5-mile stretch from Cades-Atwood Road to State Route 77 (US 70-A) from a two-lane road into a divided four-lane highway.

This new segment is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and support economic growth in the region. On the morning of November 11, traffic will be redirected to the newly constructed lanes. TDOT advises motorists to be cautious and adapt to the new traffic patterns. Although the four-lane section will be accessible, some final work, such as signage and striping, will continue under traffic with occasional lane closures expected in the following weeks.

Key features of the project include the expansion of SR 76 into a four-lane highway and a new three-way stop at the intersection of SR 76 and SR 77, designed to enhance safety and traffic management. Motorists are encouraged to adhere to posted signals and signs at this new stop.

The opening of the new segment is subject to weather conditions, and TDOT will be monitoring the situation to ensure a smooth transition.
