Assistant Fire Marshal Shandreah Womack from the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) has been awarded the title of ‘Firefighter of the Year’ by the Exchange Club of Rutherford County. The award was presented by Exchange Club Treasurer Melissa Wright at a luncheon held at Through the Grapevine on Broadmor Street, Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
The award ceremony was attended by several notable figures including Fire Chief Mark McCluskey, Assistant Chief of Training Nicole Miller, Fire Marshal Brian Lowe, Training Coordinator for Medical Division Julia Pitt, Fire Inspector Jonathan Gaither, Administrative Assistant Kristin Fulghum, and Budget Analyst Reisha L. Watson.
Womack has been with the MFRD since March 2004, showcasing a remarkable dedication to both her department and the community. She was promoted to Life Safety Officer in 2018 and then to Assistant Fire Marshal in 2020. Chief McCluskey praised her contributions, particularly in the realm of public fire safety education, stating that her efforts have reached thousands of children and adults.
In her leadership role, Womack coordinates the Fire Rescue STEAM Learning Program in Murfreesboro City Schools, impacting over 1,200 children each year. She developed the curriculum for the Teen Fire Academy and Citizens Fire Academy, which are regarded as successful community engagement programs. As Assistant Fire Marshal, Womack is responsible for overseeing fire investigations, new construction inspections, and a variety of community programs including MFRD’s Car Seat Program, Smoke Detector Program, and Community Engagement and Outreach.
Outside of MFRD, Womack contributes to the City of Murfreesboro Electric Board and the Tennessee Advisory Committee on Arson Board. She also holds the position of vice president of the Tennessee Fire Safety Inspections Association.

Mayor Honors Public Works Employees as STARS
