The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) has announced the initiation of a Phase 1 action plan aimed at addressing the rockslide along River Trace. This project, covering a distance of 0.95 miles, will start from where River Trace veers north towards Ashland City Highway and conclude at 5750 River Trace. To facilitate this project, NDOT may require a right of entry to access the top of the cliff, although no work will occur on private property.
The NDOT is coordinating with Council Member Joy Kimbrough to organize a community meeting in early December. The meeting will present the plan details and address community inquiries. Meanwhile, NDOT continues to monitor the site weekly, ensuring the implementation of traffic control measures and assessing the rockface for potential instability.
Residents are encouraged to report any concerning situations to Metro’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM), which operates 24/7 and is accessible via email at [email protected] or by phone at 615-862-8530. This ensures that NDOT is promptly notified of any urgent issues.
Local residents will still have access to the roadway, but cyclists are advised to use Ashland City Highway/Tennessee Highway 12 as an alternative route. For further details, individuals can view the River Trace Temporary Closure and Detour Map and subscribe for updates on River Trace here.

TDOT Suspends Lane Closures for Thanksgiving Travel
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will suspend lane closures on interstates and state highways during the Thanksgiving holiday to manage increased traffic, starting noon on November 27 and ending at 6:00 a.m. on December 2, 2024. Deputy Governor Butch Eley noted this move is to provide maximum road capacity and ease congestion. Despite the suspension, motorists should remain cautious as some workers may still be present, and long-term closures will persist for safety. Travelers are encouraged to use TDOT’s SmartWay traffic resources and the 511 information line for updates on road conditions.
