New Bridges on I-24 in Hamilton County to Open Early

New bridges on I-24 in Hamilton County will open ahead of schedule in November 2024.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced that new bridges over Interstate 24 at S Moore Rd and McBrien Rd in Hamilton County will open on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 6:00 am ET. These bridges are set to open more than two months ahead of schedule, marking a significant advancement in the area’s transportation infrastructure. The reconstruction is part of a larger initiative to improve the I-75 at I-24 interchange, which includes widening I-24 beneath these bridges.

Danny Oliver, Assistant Chief Engineer for TDOT in Region 2, stated, “Completing the new S Moore Road and McBrien Road bridges over I-24 is a major project milestone. Opening them both ahead of schedule is a collaborative effort and testament to the effectiveness of the project’s alternative delivery team.”

The project also includes widening I-75 and I-24 near their split, upgrading entrance and exit ramps at North and South Terrace, and installing new storm drainage systems, median barriers, guardrails, signage, and lighting. In addition, new retaining walls and noise barriers will be constructed, existing concrete pavement will be rehabilitated, and the I-75 bridge over the CSX railroad will be replaced.

The completion of these works is subject to weather conditions, and any delays due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances will be rescheduled. Tennessee Honors Crash Responder Safety Week

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has declared November 18-22 as Crash Responder Safety Week to emphasize the importance of motorist awareness in protecting first responders on highways. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) highlights the risks faced by HELP Truck drivers, who frequently respond to incidents on busy roads. This year, 20 HELP Trucks have been significantly damaged, causing injuries to five operators. Deputy Governor Butch Eley stressed the need for drivers to slow down and move over. The initiative aligns with a national effort started by the Federal Highway Administration in 2016. TDOT encourages public engagement through their social media channels.
