Nashville’s “Choose How You Move” Program Launched

Mayor O'Connell initiates the implementation of Nashville's transportation initiative.

Mayor Freddie O’Connell has initiated the first steps for implementing the “Choose How You Move” program, following its approval by 65% of Nashville voters. The program aims to enhance transportation options across the city. Mayor O’Connell emphasized the transition from planning to action and highlighted the community-driven nature of the initiative, which was shaped by over 66,000 inputs from Nashville residents.

To oversee the program’s rollout, a new Chief Program Officer position has been created. This role will be crucial in managing the $3.1 billion project, the largest collection of capital projects in Metro’s history, and will involve coordination with various departments and private partners. Interested candidates can find the job posting on the Metro Human Resources website.

Community engagement will continue through the formation of an advisory committee. The committee will consist of members from the existing Technical and Citizens Advisory Committees, which played a role during the pre-election process. Collaboration with Metro Council members, such as Transportation and Infrastructure Chair Sean Parker and Budget and Finance Chair Delishia Porterfield, will also be integral to the program’s legislative development and financial transparency.

Additionally, information sessions for vendors interested in participating will be conducted by the procurement team from the Department of Finance. These sessions aim to provide details on partnering with Metro for the program’s execution.

Expressing enthusiasm for the project, Mayor O’Connell stated, “We’re moving from talking and planning to doing.” The initiative represents a significant step towards improving transportation infrastructure in Nashville.
