Nashville Sees High Rate of Firearm Theft from Vehicles

73% of stolen guns in Nashville are taken from vehicles in 2024.

The Nashville Police Department is urging residents to ensure their vehicles are securely locked and to remove valuable items, particularly firearms, from their cars. This year, 765 guns have been stolen from vehicles in Nashville, with 14 incidents reported just last week. In total, Davidson County has seen 1,047 guns stolen in 2024, with 73% of these thefts occurring from vehicles.

To address this issue, the MNPD launched a special initiative on February 1 to combat vehicle theft and related crimes. This effort has led to 918 arrests, the recovery of 480 stolen vehicles, and the retrieval of 188 firearms. Stolen vehicles, like firearms taken from cars, are often used in other criminal activities such as carjackings and robberies. The Nashville Police Department continues to emphasize the importance of vehicle security to prevent further thefts and related crimes.
