A federal criminal complaint has been filed against Keandre Lamont Johnson, also known as Keandre L. Waters, a 27-year-old resident of Nashville. The charges include possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a machine gun, as announced by Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, Thomas J. Jaworski.
The complaint details that on March 21, 2024, the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Specialized Investigations Division conducted a surveillance operation in the James Cayce Housing Projects in Nashville. During this operation, officers identified Johnson, who was wanted on an active warrant from Sumner County, and subsequently arrested him.
Upon searching Johnson, detectives discovered a Glock Model 27 .40 caliber pistol equipped with a “Glock Switch” Machinegun Conversion Device. Additionally, they found heroin, bags of white powder, oxycodone, plastic baggies, and $400 in cash. Following this arrest, Johnson was charged in Davidson County.
Johnson has a previous criminal record, including convictions for aggravated burglary and vehicle theft over $1,000. While out on bond from the March arrest, Johnson was arrested again on November 11, 2024, and charged with Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Felony Firearms offenses related to a shooting in East Nashville.
Acting United States Attorney Thomas J. Jaworski emphasized the importance of monitoring individuals released on bond to prevent risks to the community. “These federal charges demonstrate our office’s commitment to protecting the community from those who wreak havoc while illegally possessing firearms,” he stated.
If convicted on the federal charges, Johnson faces a potential sentence of 37-46 months in federal prison. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, alongside the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Stephens.
It is important to note that a federal complaint is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
