A Nashville resident, Knykholas Lane, aged 21, has been charged with a federal firearms violation following an incident involving a Metro Nashville police officer. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, Thomas J. Jaworski.
The incident occurred in the early hours of November 19, 2024, when officers responded to a report of an armed man attempting to break into a residence on Lewis Street. Upon arrival, they identified Lane as the suspect and instructed him to stop. However, Lane fled, and during the pursuit, officers saw him holding a pistol. Lane allegedly fired at an officer, who then returned fire, hitting Lane twice.
A Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol was recovered from Lane. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Further investigation revealed that Lane was already on probation for two felony counts of Aggravated Burglary and had outstanding warrants for Domestic Violence and False Imprisonment.
Acting United States Attorney Jaworski emphasized the priority of stopping armed felons who endanger both the community and police officers. Lane now faces up to 15 years in federal prison if convicted. The case is being investigated by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Kurtzman prosecuting.
It is important to note that a federal complaint is merely an allegation, and Lane is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
