Memphis Man Sentenced for Hotel Robbery Spree

Timothy Woodard receives 26-year sentence for Memphis hotel robberies.

Timothy Woodard, a 26-year-old resident of Memphis, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 315 months in federal prison following his involvement in several hotel robberies in Memphis. The announcement was made by Reagan Fondren, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.

The criminal activities took place between October and December 2022. On October 19, Woodard entered a hotel, brandished a handgun at a clerk, and stole approximately $400 from the cash drawer. He further threatened the clerk into opening the hotel safe, from which he took an additional $300.

A subsequent incident occurred on December 19, when Woodard targeted another hotel. Armed with a semi-automatic handgun, he confronted two desk clerks and extracted about $1,500 from cash registers. Later that same day, Woodard, accompanied by another individual, entered a third hotel. He demanded money from the register and a clerk’s wallet, seizing between $800-$1,000 from the register and $300-$500 from the clerk.

In December 2023, a grand jury in the Western District of Tennessee indicted Woodard on six counts, including three counts of robbery affecting commerce (Hobbs Act Robbery) and three counts of brandishing a firearm during a violent crime. Woodard pleaded guilty to all charges on May 15, 2024.

On November 21, 2024, U.S. District Court Judge Mark S. Norris handed down the 315-month sentence, followed by three years of supervised release. Federal prison sentences do not include parole.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Memphis Police Department. Acting U.S. Attorney Fondren extended gratitude to Assistant United States Attorney Lorraine Craig, who prosecuted the case, and the law enforcement agencies involved.
