Man Arrested for Carrying Gun on School Campuses

A man was arrested for carrying a firearm on two school campuses in Murfreesboro.

In Murfreesboro, Tennessee, a 22-year-old man named Austin Diller has been arrested for carrying a firearm onto the campuses of two Murfreesboro City Schools. The incident occurred on November 11, 2025, when Diller visited John Pittard Elementary School and Erma Siegel Elementary School to inquire about enrollment information for a younger sibling.

During his visit, school office staff noticed through an external camera that Diller was openly carrying a handgun in a holster. Although the school resource officer was in another part of the building and was notified, Diller left the premises before the officer could reach the entrance.

As Diller’s whereabouts were initially unknown after leaving the second school, all Murfreesboro City Schools and nearby private schools were placed on a soft lockout as a safety precaution. This meant that no visitors were allowed inside the schools, and students were kept indoors.

The Murfreesboro Police Department, with assistance from Crime Data Analysts at the Real Time Crime Center, used License Plate Reader cameras to locate Diller, leading to his arrest at his home. He faces two felony warrants for possession of a firearm on school property and is currently being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $5,000 bond. Diller is scheduled to appear in Rutherford County General Sessions Court on December 16.
