Knoxville Transit Offers Free Rides on Election Day

Knoxville Area Transit provides fare-free rides to encourage voting.

Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) has announced that all transit rides, including the KAT Lift service, will be free of charge on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5th. This initiative is designed to ensure that all community members have access to transportation to reach their polling stations.

The fare-free service will be available city-wide on all KAT routes, including fixed-route buses and the Lift department, which is Knoxville’s paratransit service for individuals with disabilities. This decision supports Knoxville’s dedication to civic engagement by removing transportation barriers for residents who need to vote.

Isaac Thorne, Director of Transit for the City of Knoxville, expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “Election Day is a critical moment for our community to come together and make their voices heard. By offering free rides across our system, we’re helping to make that process as accessible as possible for everyone. I encourage all Knoxville residents to take advantage of this opportunity to get to the polls and participate in our shared future.”

KAT will maintain its regular schedules and routes on Election Day. Riders can find route and schedule information on the KAT website or through the Transit app, which is available for download on both Android and iOS devices.
