Knoxville City Offices Holiday Schedule for Thanksgiving

Knoxville city offices and services will observe closures during Thanksgiving.

City of Knoxville offices will remain closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, 2024, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. This closure will include the 311 and 211 service phone lines. Residents who need to report issues to 311 during the holiday weekend can use the My Knoxville app available for both iPhone and Android devices. Additionally, a list of social services and community resources, including food, housing, and mental health assistance, can be accessed at www.TN211.org.

Residential garbage and recycling collection will not occur on Thursday, November 28, as Waste Connections’ office will be closed. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only days in the year when curbside trash and recycling services are not scheduled. Waste Connections will run Thursday’s routes on Friday and Friday’s routes on Saturday. Residents are reminded to confine their waste to the contents of City-issued carts, as overflow trash or carts with lifted lids will not be collected.

Downtown garbage and recycling collection will also be suspended on Thursday, November 28. However, the City’s five recycling centers will remain open, although the Goodwill attendant will not be available for household goods donations on that day. Residents are encouraged to hold on to donations until an attendant is present.

The City’s Solid Waste Facility located at 1033 Elm Street will be closed from Thursday, November 28 through Saturday, November 30, and will resume normal operations on Monday, December 2.

Additionally, KAT buses will not be running on Thursday, November 28, and the downtown station will be closed. On Friday, November 29, KAT will operate on a Sunday schedule with the customer service desk open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Normal bus operations will resume on Saturday, November 30.
