The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has reported a significant number of guns stolen from vehicles in Nashville this year. As of now, 788 firearms have been taken from cars, with 23 incidents occurring just last week. In total, 1,076 guns have been reported stolen in Davidson County in 2024, indicating that 73% of these thefts involved vehicles.
In response to the rising number of vehicle-related thefts, the MNPD launched a special initiative on February 1st to combat these crimes. Since the initiative began, authorities have made 926 arrests and recovered 485 stolen vehicles and 190 guns. Stolen vehicles, much like firearms taken from cars, are often linked to criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
The police department continues to urge residents to lock their car doors, secure valuables, especially firearms, and remove keys to reduce the risk of theft.
