Firefighters from the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department, alongside over 80 firefighters from 36 departments across 12 states, participated in a training conference last weekend sponsored by the Gary Sinise Foundation. The foundation generously covered all expenses, including tuition, lodging, and meals. The event was held at the Doug Young Public Safety Training Facility in Murfreesboro from November 8 to 10.
During the three-day conference, firefighter crews engaged in various training procedures, including Performance Psychology for the Fire Service, The First Five Minutes, Vent Inter Search, Fire Attack: The Nozzle Team, Resident Primary Search, and Fundamentals of Thermal Imaging. The training aimed to equip firefighters with essential skills for fire ground operations and emergency medical services (EMS).
This initiative was especially beneficial for firefighters from smaller departments that often lack access to advanced training resources. Robert Blassetti, CEO of Performance Under Pressure, highlighted the significance of the training, stating, “This training provides opportunities for folks who do not have a facility like Murfreesboro to practice the fundamentals on being able to operate on fireground or the EMS scene to help out their citizens they are serving.”
Blassetti further emphasized the long-term benefits, explaining that the training serves as a force multiplier. “We allow four to six people per department, and we give them all the training materials and then go back and train their folks in their departments,” he said. By sharing their knowledge and skills, these firefighters extend the training’s impact, enhancing emergency response capabilities across various communities.
