Emily J. Reynolds, vice chair of the Tennessee Board of Regents, has been recognized as one of seven women honored by YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee in its 32nd Academy for Women of Achievement (AWA) event. The ceremony took place on October 24 at Music City Center, where exceptional women and one organization were acknowledged for their dedication to empowering women and enhancing the Nashville and Middle Tennessee community.
YWCA President and CEO Sharon K. Roberson praised the honorees for their impactful contributions, emphasizing their role in fostering positive change within the community. The Academy for Women of Achievement recognizes women whose efforts align with YWCA’s mission to promote racial equity and empower women.
Reynolds, who joined the Tennessee Board of Regents in 2010, has a distinguished career in public service and governance. Appointed by Governor Phil Bredesen and later reappointed by Governors Bill Haslam and Bill Lee, she has served as vice chair since 2013. Her tenure as vice chair is the longest in the Board’s history, where she presides in the absence of the governor.
Among the other 2024 AWA honorees are Ivanetta Davis Samuels, Michele Johnson, Rita Johnson-Mills, Sylvia Rapoport, Amanda Weeks-Geveden, and Evette White. Ingram Industries was recognized as the corporate honoree. Since its establishment in 1992, the AWA has acknowledged 198 women and 35 organizations for their outstanding contributions. The 2024 celebration focused on the theme “It All Starts With a Seed,” highlighting the power of ideas to inspire change.
