Driver Charged in Fatal DUI Crash in Murfreesboro

A fatal wrong-way collision occurred on S. Church Street in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, resulting in the death of a local man. The incident took place on November 7, 2024, when a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 23-year-old Lora Allison Tenpenny, collided head-on with a BMW. The crash, which happened at 7:24 p.m., resulted in the death of the 28-year-old male driver of the BMW.

Tenpenny, who was driving southbound in the northbound lane, has been charged with vehicular homicide, felony reckless endangerment, and DUI. Following the crash, her Jeep flipped onto its side. Both Tenpenny and her 22-year-old female passenger were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An off-duty deputy from Williamson County witnessed the crash and had called 911 to report a possible intoxicated driver beforehand. Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department Safety Officer and Paramedic Captain Karl Daigle, who was also off-duty, stopped to assist at the scene. Daigle and the deputy extracted the victim from the BMW and initiated CPR until local firefighters and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived to continue medical care.

Tenpenny was released from the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center after posting a $72,000 bond. Her court hearing is scheduled for November 19 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
