City offices in Murfreesboro will observe the Thanksgiving holiday by closing on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, 2024. City Hall and most administrative offices will not be operational during these days. The Solid Waste Department will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day, with no garbage collection scheduled. Instead, Thursday’s garbage pick-up will occur on Wednesday, November 27, while Friday’s service will proceed as usual with no route changes.
The Murfreesboro Transit, the city’s public transportation system, will be non-operational on both November 28 and 29. The St. Clair Street Senior Center will similarly remain closed on these dates.
All facilities managed by the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department will cease operations on Thanksgiving Day, November 28. This includes Barfield Crescent Wilderness Station, Cannonsburgh Village, McFadden Community Center, Patterson Park Community Center, Bradley Academy Museum, Adams Tennis Complex, and Sports*Com. The Parks & Recreation Main Office will also be closed on Friday, November 29. However, the McFadden Community Center will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both Wednesday, November 27, and Friday, November 29. Other facilities, such as the Adams Tennis Complex, Patterson Community Center, Sports*Com, Wilderness Station, Cannonsburgh Village, and Bradley Museum, will resume normal operating hours on Friday, November 29.
The Old Fort and Bloomfield Links golf courses will not be open on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, but will welcome visitors on Friday, November 29, weather permitting.
The tradition of Thanksgiving dates back to 1789 when President George Washington declared November 26 as a day of gratitude for the creation of the United States. This day has since evolved into an annual celebration.
