Woodrow Drive Repair Scheduled to Commence Next Week

Woodrow Drive repairs will begin next week, aiming for completion by November's end.

Extensive repair work on Woodrow Drive is set to start next week, with a projected completion date by the end of November. Earlier this year, the Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) made significant infrastructure improvements beneath the road and patched the surface. However, over time, the road surface became uneven due to the settling of fill materials.

The repair process will involve more than simply applying asphalt. Crews will rebuild the sub base using stone before covering it with two layers of asphalt. This additional effort aims to enhance the longevity of the road’s surface. The City strategically scheduled this work during a period when additional crews were available, ensuring a shorter timeline for completion.

Civil Engineering Manager Amanda Koenig explained, “By scheduling this at the end of the citywide paving contract, Rogers Group has the capacity now to assign multiple crews to Woodrow, and the contractor did not have that option even a week or two ago.”

Koenig expressed gratitude to the residents for their patience, stating, “We think this is the best solution, both in terms of reducing the dig-out work to the shortest duration of time possible, plus getting a quality street that will hold up over time.”

For the duration of the six-week project, Woodrow Drive will be closed to through traffic. Residents may experience limited access at times, but the contractor will provide advance notice when work is scheduled directly in front of their homes. While parts of Woodrow will be closed to through traffic at times, local access for residents will remain open.
