Dr. Tracy D. Hall, the president of Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis, has been selected as one of 25 innovative leaders to participate in the Aspen Institute’s Presidents Fellowship. Sponsored by JPMorgan Chase, this fellowship is a yearlong professional development program aimed at helping community college presidents drive transformative change within their institutions.
Josh Wyner, Executive Director of the College Excellence Program, emphasized the importance of community colleges in educating diverse students and the role of the fellowship in strengthening institutional strategies to achieve educational and career goals for students. The Aspen Presidents Fellowship provides a platform for community college leaders to work with experienced presidents and Aspen leaders to analyze and improve their college outcomes.
Participants will engage with a curriculum that includes data reports on available jobs, student outcomes, and research on effective practices that have led to high levels of student success. The program focuses on systemic reforms to improve student access, learning, completion rates, and post-graduation outcomes.
Expressing her excitement about the fellowship, President Hall stated, “It is an honor to be selected, and I look forward to learning and exchanging innovative practices that will help our students graduate and pursue meaningful careers.” Hall’s tenure at Southwest Tennessee Community College, which began in 2015, has seen the institution achieve recognition as a Leader College of Distinction. Her leadership also led to the establishment of the Southwest Workforce Solutions Center, enhancing the integration of workforce programs with associate degree offerings.
Flora W. Tydings, Chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents, praised Hall’s recognition as a national leader in community college innovation. The Aspen Presidents Fellowship aims to connect community college reform leaders with professional development opportunities, research briefings, and national conference convenings.
The fellowship, supported by JPMorgan Chase’s New Skills at Work initiative, reflects a commitment to preparing young people for the future of work and advancing racial equity. More information about Southwest Tennessee Community College can be found at www.southwest.tn.edu.
