Three East High Students Arrested for Gun Possession

Three students were arrested at East High School for possessing firearms on school property.

Three students at East High School were arrested following the discovery of firearms during a random search conducted by the school’s administration. The search revealed two students, both in the 11th grade and aged 16 and 17, with guns in their backpacks. The students attempted to discard their backpacks as Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) security conducted the search, but the bags were retrieved and found to contain handguns along with other items.

The 16-year-old student was taken into custody and faces charges of juvenile handgun possession, carrying a weapon on school property, possession of drugs, and possession within a drug-free school zone. The 17-year-old was also arrested and charged with juvenile handgun possession, carrying a weapon on school property, and possession of burglary tools.

Further investigation led to the discovery of a third handgun inside the vehicle of a 12th-grade student, aged 17. This student was arrested and charged with juvenile handgun possession and carrying a weapon on school property.

Nashville’s Fight Against Vehicle-Related Crimes

The Nashville Police Department is actively working to reduce vehicle-related crimes by urging residents to secure their vehicles and valuables, especially firearms, which have seen a significant number of thefts. Despite a 26% decrease in guns stolen from vehicles compared to last year, 723 guns have been reported stolen from cars this year. To combat these crimes, the MNPD launched an initiative resulting in numerous arrests and recoveries of stolen property. For further details, resources are available on the MNPD’s Interactive Crime Maps and Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week page.
