Three men from Houston, Texas, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly robbing an ATM repairman at a Truist Bank in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The individuals, identified as Robert Bailey, Jr., 24, Demond Johnson, Jr., 19, and Ryan Smith, Jr., 26, are facing charges of bank larceny.
The incident occurred on November 14, 2023, when the defendants reportedly took more than $50,000 from an ATM on Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro while it was undergoing repairs. Following the theft, Ryan Smith was apprehended on Interstate 24 while traveling in an Uber. Demond Johnson was arrested at the Nashville International Airport. Robert Bailey successfully returned to Houston but was arrested at a later date. Authorities in Houston confiscated the stolen money when it arrived at the Houston Hobby Airport.
If convicted, each man could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a minimum fine of $250,000. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Nashville and Houston Field Offices, along with the Murfreesboro Police Department and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph P. Montminy is leading the prosecution.
It is important to note that an indictment is only an allegation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
