Tennessee State University Homecoming Celebrations: Key Details

Tennessee State University prepares for its homecoming game and parade with logistical updates.

Tennessee State University’s homecoming festivities are set to take place on Saturday, featuring the traditional parade and a football game against Eastern Illinois University at Nissan Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m., and fans are encouraged to plan their parking and arrival in advance due to construction around the stadium, which has impacted parking availability.

Parking passes for the Nissan Stadium campus have been sold out. Attendees without prepaid passes should consider parking downtown and walking to the stadium or opting for rideshare services. Limited gameday parking will be available for purchase in Lot N, located across Shelby Avenue from the stadium. All parking lots will open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Metro police will deploy over 80 officers to manage traffic around the stadium, using the same traffic plan as for NFL games, although the Woodland Street Bridge will remain open.

The homecoming parade will commence at 9 a.m., traveling west along Jefferson Street from 14th Avenue to the university campus. Jefferson Street will begin closing at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, with additional closures of surrounding streets to accommodate the parade. The I-40 west exit ramp at Jefferson Street is set to close at 8:30 a.m.

For those utilizing rideshare services, two designated areas have been established near the stadium: Interstate Drive between Woodland Street and Shelby Avenue, and Crutcher Street at S 2nd Street.

Participants and spectators are advised to arrive early to ensure a smooth experience during the homecoming events. For further details, maps of the homecoming route and best parking options can be found here.
